Still More Problems with Ram Trucks!
As we have said before, Ram trucks continue to be top sellers, and continue to cause many problems for owners. In addition to the numerous recalls of Ram trucks in recent years, owners continue to report a wide variety of problems with the vehicles.
There is no denying the popularity of the Ram truck. The numbers speak for themselves when it comes to Ram and its presence in the marketplace. In 2021, Ram sold just shy of 570,000 vehicles, a one percent increase from the previous year. In addition, Ram outpaced some of the other giants of the market in 2021, topping sales of Chevy Silverado trucks by around 40,000 vehicles. As the first truck-only vehicle brand to win number one overall initial quality from J.D. Power, Ram has firmly established itself in the top tier when it comes to American trucks as the company continues to put out impressive sales numbers year after year.
Despite its massive popularity, there have been a number of complaints from Ram vehicle owners in recent years regarding a variety of issues. In addition to problems with fuel/propulsion system, service brakes, electrical system, and power train problems, drivers also report problems with the transmission, engine, and oil consumption. A number of complaints that currently appear on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website illuminate some of the issues that Ram drivers have faced.
One driver of a 2020 Ram 2500 reported a loud knocking sound followed by a clanking noise while driving their truck. After this noise, the truck shut off, leaving them unable to control the vehicle because all of the systems subsequently shut down. No warning lights were illuminated at the time of this incident. Upon taking their Ram 2500 to get inspected at a dealership, the vehicle owner said that they were told that a high pressure fuel pump failure had occurred.
In November 2021, specific 2019 to 2020 Ram 2500, 3500 trucks, as well as Ram 3500, 4500, and 5500 cab chassis vehicles that were equipped with Cummins 6.7L Turbo Diesel engines were recalled because of the potential that the High Pressure Fuel Pump may fail. Because of this issue, affected vehicles could see a sudden engine stall without warning. To fix this issue, the recall says that it would replace the pump, update the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) software, and also inspect and—if necessary—replace additional fuel system components as necessary.
Ram owners have also reported issues with their trucks’ transmission. In one complaint, a Ram 2500 driver said that they were driving for a half hour when their vehicle slowed and came to a complete stop due to an issue with their transmission. Another Ram 2500 owner said that when they were driving they heard an odd noise originating from the engine area. Upon opening the hood, they said that their truck died out and was unable to start back up. They claim that their fuel system was not functioning. These complaints provide a window into the types of issues that Ram vehicle owners have been dealing with in recent years.
