If you have experienced problems with a GMC Sierra that have not been resolved by the dealer or GM, you may have a lemon on your hands. GMC Sierra Class Action Lawsuit
A class action lawsuit has been filed against General Motors involving the 2014-2015 GMC Sierra 1500, 2015 GMC Sierra 2500HD, and GMC Sierra 3500 pickup trucks. The plaintiffs allege that the vehicles were sold with inadequate headlights that are not bright enough for safe night driving. The lawsuit also claims that the automaker changed the bulbs, assemblies, and operation of the lights that affect visibility.
For its part, GM denies the allegations even though two technical service bulletins have been issued regarding vehicles in “dark rural areas.” At this juncture, the lawsuit has not been certified as a class action, so it is unclear what the outcome will be. Nonetheless, the proposed class action lawsuit against GM adds to the litany of complaints about the GMC Sierra.
GMC Sierra Recalls
In addition to the numerous consumer complaints about the GMC Sierra, there have also been a number of other recalls: In September 2018, GM announced the recall of over one million pickup trucks and SUVs, including the 2015 model GMC Sierra. Electrical power steering assist may be momentarily lost and then suddenly return, making it difficult to steer. This could increase the risk of an accident. A similar power steering recall also involved GMC pickup trucks in 2017. GM said that dealers will update the EPS software.
In August 2017, GM recalled certain 2017 model year GMC Sierra pickup trucks. The owner’s manual lacked instructions on how to use the child restraint and tether anchorage systems in accordance with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 225, “Child Restraint Anchorage Systems.” Without the instructions, the child restraint seat may be incorrectly installed, increasing the risk of an injury. GM provided a corrected insert for GMC Sierra consumers. In July 2017, GM recalled certain model year 2014 – 2016 GMC Sierra 1500 vehicles over a recurrent airbag defect. The affected Sierra trucks did not receive the complete software that would allow the deployment of the frontal airbags and seatbelt pre-tensioners in an accident. GM instructed dealers to correct the software.
