Dodge Charger

The Dodge Charger is one of Dodge’s most popular models and has a long history as an iconic American car. First released in 1966, Dodge has produced seven generations of this model. The earlier generations of the mid-size two-door sedan (1966-78) positioned the Charger as a muscle car, reinforced by its on-screen popularity in shows such as Bullitt and The Dukes of Hazzard. The Charger reappeared in its fifth generation as subcompact hatchback coupe (1983-87). After a short break in production, the 2006 Charger was a clear move by Dodge to return to the muscle car image that it originally claimed. This full-size four-door sedan was based on the Chrysler LX platform, featured rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive and offered a V6 or HEMI V8 engine. The most recent generation of the Charger (2011-Present), based on an LD platform, gained an 8-speed automatic transmission, updated suspension, and more tech on the interior. Engines include a 3.6-liter V6, 5.7-liter HEMI V8, a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 in the Hellcat, and a 6.4-liter HEMI V8.

The Charger has been the subject of numerous recalls and complaints, including the massive Takata airbag recall of recent years and a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration investigation into software security vulnerability. The Charger has gained a reputation for stalling while driving (especially after filling the gas tank in the 2006 model), premature engine failure, leaking gas and fires related to the electrical system fires.
