Burning Issue Sparks Recall of Ram Trucks

Could defective water pump bearings cause a fire?

You often hear the expression “where there is smoke, there is fire”. But in the case of a half million Ram trucks, where there’s water, there could be fire as well—at least where there are defective water pump bearings, that is

Fiat Chrysler defects attorneys have learned that the automaker has issued an auto recall of “about 500,000 model years 2013–2017 Ram 2500 and 3500 pick-ups, plus 3500, 4500, and 5500 chassis cabs”. The affected 6.7-liter engine Ram trucks reportedly have water pump bearings that can overheat and cause fires in the engine compartment.

According to the manufacturer, the type of water pump used in the vehicles now subject to this recall is no longer used on Ram trucks. The manufacturer also stressed that the engine compartment fires reported by complaining owners “have been contained to small localized areas of the water pumps”, and have not engulfed the trucks in flames as has been previously reported by some sources. In fact, Chrysler Fiat allegedly stated it was not aware of any reported accidents or injuries as a result of the defective water pump bearings.

The recall, number T51, reportedly affects over 440,000 Ram trucks in the United States alone. Owners are encouraged to contact the dealer if they “see illuminated warning lights on the instrument cluster”. Alternatively, rather than waiting, they could contact the dealer or an auto recall attorney with any other questions.

Sometimes, auto defects, whether subject to a recall or not, can be chronic. Those who lease or buy new vehicles may find themselves frustrated by repeated, failed attempts to repair the same faulty system or part. In that case, a Lemon Law claim may be the only way to get you the compensation you are entitled to. Time and mileage limits vary, so it’s best to contact a Lemon Law attorney with proven results as soon as possible to avoid waiving your right to pursue a lemon law action.
