Ford Fiesta

The Ford Fiesta, a subcompact sedan and hatchback, was discontinued in the US market in 2019. It continues to be sold in other markets globally where there is more appetite for smaller, fuel-efficient vehicles. Sales of the Fiesta declined in the US where SUVs and crossovers have become more desirable, and Ford has cut all but two of its sedans from production in order to focus on its trucks and SUVs.

The Fiesta has a loyal following of owners who value driving agility and/or fuel economy. The 1.6-liter 4-cylinder engine (turbocharged on the ST hatchback), combined with 5-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission, goes a long way on a car this size (especially as is there is little room for passengers or cargo in its cramped interior.)

However, Fiesta owners have been disappointed by the array of problems with the Fiesta. The most common complaint relates to faults with the transmission. Owners report noises in the transmission, rough and delayed shifting, and interruption of power. A class action lawsuit relating to the Ford PowerShift dual-clutch transmission (2011-2016 models) was settled in early 2020 but no recall was ever issued. A 2019 recall relates to a swollen seal on the front brakes which may drag, overheat and increase the risk of a crash. Fiesta owners also complain about exploding sunroofs, malfunctioning airbags, and defective canister purge valves (particularly in the 2017 model) similar to that for which the Ford Focus was recalled.
